A man has today denied allegations of defrauding Sh1.3million before a Nanyuki court.

Elias Mwangi who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Evanson Ngigi allegedly committed the offence on diverse dates between October 19, 2015 and November 10, 2015 at Nanyuki town.

The accused is also facing another count of presenting a bad cheque with full knowledge of insufficient funds in his account.

The accused with an intent to defraud obtained goods worth Sh 1, 373, 520 from a hardware belonging to Savlavinit Arvind pretending to pay for the goods.

According to prosecution, initially the complainant had received a call from the accused for delivery of goods amounting to Sh 270, 780 then issued a bad cheque.

Later Mwangi requested for more goods amounting to Sh 1.1million promising he would pay cash once delivered but never paid.

After the delivery of the goods the complainant’s efforts to trace the accused were futile since he switched off his phone.

The complainant reported the matter to Nanyuki police station, and a search for the accused was launched, until last week when the accused resurfaced and was arrested and charged with the offence.

The matter was set for hearing on April 17, 2017 and the accused will execute a bond of Sh 500, 000 with surety of similar amount for his release.
