Over 300 youth from Ekerenyo in Nyamira North Sub County yesterday held demonstrations protesting the recent reshuffle in the county government executive.
The angry youth took exception with Nyamira County Governor, John Nyagarama, for effecting the changes only seven months to the general election and read a sinister motive in the reshuffle involving some County Executive Committee (CEC) members and carried out last week.
The youth particularly registered their disappointment and anger over the changes where the executive committee member for finance was moved to head the education department saying it was ill advised.
In the reshuffle made last week, the ECM finance Jones Omwenga was moved from the finance department to head the education department.
They demanded for his immediate reinstatement saying the move was meant to siphon money from the county to finance the campaigns in forthcoming general elections.
The demonstrators at the same time accused the governor of not honouring his election pledges and promises and threatened not rally their support for his re-election bid in the forthcoming general elections.
They also claimed youth from the region had been sidelined in the employment sector and were always left out in recruitment by the county’s Public Service Board.
But speaking to press,County Secretary Eric Aori dismissed the allegations saying they were baseless and bordering on malice.
Aori said that the county executive members were serving in respective dockets on the discretion of the governor who initiated the reshuffle. He said that all departments were equal and appealed to residents of the county to stop politicising the issue terming it as a normal transfer.
“It does not mean that the former ECM finance was demoted after his transfer to education docket, he will still serve in the same capacity,” he explained.
