Registration of voters in Kitui County kicked off on Monday  but received little attention from residents.

Residents went about their daily chores as usual even as the registration clerks opened shop in some centres from as early as 8.00 am.

The exercise was marred by low turn-out with residents interviewed saying that there was still ample time to register.

However, several hitches including delays in opening up the centres and equipment failure characterized the first day of the exercise.

In most registration centers in Kitui Central constituency, the exercise had not started by 11.00 am as some of the equipment was yet to be received or where they were available technical challenges arose just before the start of the exercise.

At Kitui Central Primary School registration centre, the computer failed to configure important information prompting the exercise to delay until 11.30 am when Information, Communication and Technology personnel rectified the malfunction.

In other centres, gadgets like scanners and cables were missing in the kit boxes hence delaying the exercise as registration officials looked for the missing components.

Generally, the exercise was low key with only a few people turning out to register.
