Maendeleo ya Wanawake organization, Wajir branch, and youths in Wajir town have threatened to move to the High Court over a piece of land occupied by a former ruling party KANU.

Also laying claim to the disputed land is a former Member of Parliament for Wajir West Ibrahim Husein, who represented the area between 1969 and 1974.

“Mr Husein claims ownership of the public land which houses KANU offices, which were built by tax payers’ money during president Moi’s regime”, a youth leader who spoke to the press on condition of anonymity told the press in Wajir Town Tuesday.

The piece of land was later taken over by Maendeleo ya wanawake organization who claim to be the legitimate owners.

During the time the organization was in charge of the land, the plot hosted a number of projects meant to empower women and youth in the area.

“These projects included free tailoring courses among others by the women organization”, reiterated the youth leader.

When contacted, Ibrahim, who has fenced off the piece of land in dispute, said he could not discuss anything with the media until the court case is over.

In a similar case before Wajir Magistrate’s court, Ibrahim Husein is accused of grabbing land at Baraza Park in Wajir Township, land that is said once belonged to Forestry Department.
